Enhancing the academic experience of current and future students
Founded in 2010, the Crimson Tide Foundation was born from the vision of three Pottsville Area High School alumni who shared a deep appreciation for the school district that helped shape their lives. Reflecting on their experiences, they recognized a shared desire among alumni to “give back”—to honor the legacy of the “castle on the hill” that laid the foundation for their personal and professional journeys.
These alumni also understood that many innovative and enriching educational initiatives often exceed the limits of traditional school budgets. Their conversations led to the creation of the Crimson Tide Foundation—a tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization designed to support and enhance educational opportunities across all levels of the Pottsville Area School District, including the high school, middle school, and elementary schools.
The Foundation’s first fundraising event took place in June 2011, resulting in a $1,000 donation for updated reference materials in the Pottsville Area High School library. Building on that momentum, the Board of Directors expanded to approximately 20 members in 2012, and regular monthly meetings began.
Since then, the Foundation has:
In 2018, the Foundation was designated as an Educational Improvement Organization (EIO) by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. This designation enables businesses to make eligible contributions to the Foundation and receive Educational Improvement Tax Credits (EITC) in return.
Every accomplishment has been achieved by a 100% volunteer effort—with the support of alumni, local businesses, residents, and friends of the Pottsville Area School District. With continued community engagement, the Crimson Tide Foundation is committed to expanding its impact and supporting educational excellence well into the future
